NEW release and REVIEW of Exes With Benefits
SYNOPSIS
***He wants a second chance. I want a divorce. To get what I want, I’ll have to give him what he does.*** From New York Times & USA Today bestselling author, Nicole Williams: The only benefit I want from my ex is a divorce. We got married for all the wrong reasons. The one thing we got right was our separation. I should have known better than to think I could bet on forever with a guy like Canaan Ford. Everything about him screamed impermanent, from his wild eyes to his restless soul. When I left him and the small town I’d spent my whole life in, I swore I’d never go back. Never only turned out to be five years. Canaan claims he’s changed, but he hasn’t—same knowing smile, same rough demeanor, same body crafted from sin and sinew. And yet, something is different. He thinks this is his chance for redemption. My disagreement comes in the form of divorce papers dropped in his lap. He refuses to sign them. Unless . . . He wants a month to prove himself to me—that’s his offer. One month to make me fall in love with him again and if I don’t, he’ll sign the papers. As much as I want to say no, I agree. I can suffer my ex for a short amount of time if that’s what it takes to be free of him once and for all. I fell for him once; I won’t make that same mistake twice. He says we’re not over. I say we were over before we got started. Only one of us can be right, and I can’t let it be him.

When I heard about this book I was so excited to get my hands on it! I couldn't wait to read the story and be immersed in all this drama and I am disappointed to say I didn't get that!
The story:
Maggie and Canaan are high school sweethearts that got married at a young age. Once happy and in love they had all that they needed, each other. Then tragedy hit and things got dark and messy. Maggie couldn't stand around any longer to watch the man she loved self destruct. So she left.
Five years later Maggie is back in her small home town, she hasn't been back since she left all those years ago. When Canaan and Maggie reunite sparks fly. Canaan has only gotten better looking with time and more determined than ever to win back the love of his life. With their bad history Maggie does not want to reconcile at all, in fact all she wants is his signature on the divorce papers. Unfortunately for her Canaan has different plans. Plans that include her back in his bed.
My thoughts:
I was expecting a lot more angst in this story. The prologue was my favorite part of the book, set in the past we got to see one of the reasons why Maggie left in the first place. I wanted to feel more of Maggie's pain and hurt but I didn't. I think had there been more chapters set in the past I would have been able to understand her feelings more. It also would have just been more interesting to see what they were like when they were younger. The good times and bad. I especially would have liked to have seen a chapter or scene looking back to when Canaan found out Maggie's big news. Ultimately one of the major factors in them getting married in the first place.
I also didn't feel a lot of chemistry between the hero and heroine which was a shame. I really was expecting this to be a 4 or 5 star book since I loved Hate Story so much! Sadly it just didn't hit the mark.
