The Forbidden By Jodi Ellen Malpas ~ Review
I really enjoyed this book. To me personally I didn't think The Forbidden was THAT forbidden. Now let me explain. It's gonna be tricky since I can't spill any spoilers! First let me say I actually really enjoyed this book. As always JEM's writing is flawless. There was a great flow and and I loved where the story line went. She kept me interested, once I picked it up I did not put it down until the very end! To me the first 45% was a little boring even though I was enjoying it I expected more! After all it is JEM so I always hold her to a higher standard as one of my favorite authors. I didn't really feel that chemistry between Jack and Annie! Yes I read the words and how passionate Jodi was trying to convey but I just wasn't feeling it! After 45% that's when I really started to love it and develop a connection to the plot. I would rate this book 4 out of 5 stars but if the pace hadn't have picked up after the 45% I would have said 3 out of 5. Jodi really saved the book with that second half. That is also the point where Annie gave into her desires, that might have something to do with it. When Jack and Annie met it was instant lust, you could tell from Jodi's description they connected. Drawn to each other like a moth to a flame they couldn't stay away. After one night of hot passion Annie sneaks away the morning after. Okay so I guess that is all I can really say about the story because after that it is spoiler central! Annie was great! From the very beginning I really really liked her! She was really likable and I loved her work ethic. Jodi always writes about strong women with great jobs...except for Olivia but I still loved her anyway! Annie had a great personality and a cool group of friends around her, I also really liked the scene with her parents! Jack was very sweet! Almost too sweet for me. I like my hero's mean, possessive and alpha! I didn't really get a lot of that from Jack. There was a few moments where I saw that possessive and alpha-ness but I craved more. Jack is definitely the gentleman type caring and considerate. I loved their romantic moments together.
The reason why I said at the beginning that I didn't feel The Forbidden was THAT forbidden is because I read A LOT, I have read about all types of couples. So to me personally I didn't really get that taboo aspect of it all. I have become desensitized to it all. I've read so many books especially recently about cousins falling in love so this wasn't like a huge deal to me. Maybe if it was a few years ago I would have been surprised but not now. I also don't think readers will feel bad about the situation because of the circumstances. It wasn't hard to feel accepting of Jack and Annie being together. So that is the conclusion to my review. I was delighted to have been chosen to review an advanced copy of The Forbidden by the publishers. Thank you so much it is always an honor.
